Today’s cabin sewing project ✨This is my third project from “Just One Charm Pack Quilts” book, and I see more in the future. 🥰

Instead of using a Charm Pack for this particular project , I pulled all my leftover solids from previous projects, including #konapepper for the navy and #grungegreypaper for the background, and cut them into 5” squares.

1 of 4 big blocks constructed so far, and now to trim 105 HST to construct the remaining blocks.

Perfect project to do on a crisp, sunny day at the cabin. And the added bonus is that I did indeed bust into my scrap stash!

When squaring quilts, it helps to have a really big ruler 😀✔️ My fave big ruler? 👇🏻

If you are like me, you have oodles of rulers. But, I bet you use 2-3 of them most of the time. Likely, the others are for specific tasks - nonetheless important.

I use this Creative Grids ruler everyday. It’s my favourite for squaring up quilts, for me and for my clients (optional complimentary service). Why? It is really wide at 12.5” (24.5” long) and it allows me to look at a larger area when trimming and squaring those corners.

I also appreciate that on 2 edges it has large white markers in whole inches, but when you flip it, those large black markers are in 1/2 inches. It’s the perfect ruler when cutting your fabric requirements for a quilt!

Theme styled quilting designs typically aren't my jam, but hello! I jumped at this design when Megan requested it. I am sure this sweet little quilt would be Jedi Master approved.

This is a great example of pulling inspiration from fabric to create a colour pull for a quilt! 👍🏻

Do you see it? Check that charming boho print surrounding the star. ✨ The progression of colours in the star is completely inspired by the print. Love it!

Janis knew exactly what she wanted on this star to finish it off. She found links on my website to my favourite digital designers and found the design she wanted. Funny thing is, I totally would have suggested this design had she not mentioned it first! 😀The diamonds give great texture and works well on a square quilt where there isn’t a “top & bottom”. This digital pattern is one of my faves, and is on several of my own quilts.

Scrap happy! What a delightful quilt 👏🏻 and check out this digital design {swoon}

Scraps are delightful. Basic squares sewn together, saved from scraps of previous projects, is simply an economical way to create a whole other quilt. 👍🏻

The soft, delicate floral and leaf details were calling out for this digital design #prettylittlevinepanto

When the quilt top fabrics are busy, the details of the design often can be camouflaged by the fabric. BUT, does it ever look amazing on the back! Especially when the backing fabric is double gauze 🥰 (so soft to the touch)

Debbie was searching for “the perfect” quilting fabric for the newest addition to the family and found this on Spoonflower! Best part, choosing a coordinating backing for this quilt was a cinch. 🥰

I love it when clients leave the final quilting design choice to me. Debbie mentioned that this quilt was for a baby boy and to quilt something a little denser than her usual request, as she hoped this quilt would be washed and washed and washed with all its use.

With all of these little critters, I felt that the mountains were calling and so I chose #wallpaperfanpanto designed by my pal Barbie, of @thequiltingmill

The smiling faces when folks pick up their quilt fills my heart. But when you get a follow up text after they get home telling you again how happy they are, well…

Cabin Vibes is the latest pattern release by @sewandsew.quilting.co and it was so awesome to be included in the tester group for Kaycee’s quilt pattern.

This quilt pattern has amazing diagrams and instructions for both a 4 colour and 8 colour version. 🥰 This quilt is absolutely going to be the one on our couch at the cabin!

It was fun to see the progression of everyone’s quilts!

So I tackled a few projects recently and I gotta say I “dang, they are awesome”!

I still have a “few” more ongoing projects to finish….. (I say “few” as a VERY loose term… 🤦‍♀️)But for now, I plan to just sit back and enjoy. But not for long, as I still need to put binding on these two.

Both of these projects are from pattern designers that I truly admire. So much so, I have made almost all of their quilts. 😳 Yup!

Four Seasons QAL - Fall block

Happy Sunday! How’s your quilty world today?

I’ve been able to carve out some time for my own projects. It helps when you have a bright sunny place to quilt - that and the fact that I am out at cabin where distractions are much different than my work week life.

You may (or may not 😉) have noticed that I stepped away from social media for a while. The quilting studio has been crazy busy (always so thankful 🥰) and weekends have been spent with stocking/decorating the newly re-built cabin and all the landscaping that comes with a blank slate.

Current project: finishing up a tester quilt for @sewandsew.quilting.co - Kaycee has a new pattern coming out next month and it’s lovely. #cabinvibesquilt has some familiar elements (star block) mixed with new blocks for what will be a perfect snuggly quilt. 😍

I knew this would happen! 😆 So, I was prepared! 🤣

I know, the smartest thing would have been to put these two new rolls of batting away as soon as I brought them in. But I didn’t. I wasn’t quite finished rearranging the area where I usually store my batting and figured they could just stay on one of my studio tables until I was ready.

And knowing Libby…. I knew she would find this to be (yet another) perfect spot for napping. She also can’t resist a folded quilt. Out came one of my quilts to cover the batting, and presto! She was up there and napping within minutes!

🎉 I'm so excited to share with you Karmen's FIRST quilt! As a Longarm Quilter, I get to see so many beautiful quilts, but there's just something special about a first-time quilt. And Karmen knocked it out of the park... or in this case, the pencil crayon box!

I especially love the fun backing she made with leftover fabrics from the quilt top. ♻️ This gal is after my quilting heart on using her scraps!

When it came time to quilt the quilt, Karmen chose a classic pantograph that looks good on any quilt. And let me tell you, the finished product is stunning! The quilting adds so much texture and dimension to the quilt. 🤩 We even doubled up the batting to make it a bit more poofy, which really showcases that texture. I think her son is going to feel pretty darn special. To completely finish off the quilt, I was more than happy that she requested binding services as well. After all - a perfect quilt is a finished quilt!

Quilting is such a fun and rewarding hobby, and I'm so happy to see more and more people getting into it. If you're thinking about making your first quilt, I encourage you to go for it! You never know, it could be the start of a lifelong passion. ❤️

☕️Coffee anyone? This quilt is amazing!

I am so excited to share this stunning mini quilt with you guys! 😍 This beauty was created by one of my skilled clients who absolutely loves foundation paper piecing. The pattern is from LegitKits and it turned out absolutely gorgeous! 😍 Can you believe that there are 74 colours in here?!

If you're a fan of foundation paper piecing like Lorraine, you should definitely give this pattern a try. The end result is simply stunning. And let's be honest, who doesn't love a good coffee-themed quilt? ☕️

To finish it off, a simple edge-to-edge pantograph was used that suggested steam coming from the coffee cup. It's the perfect finishing touch to this already beautiful wall hanging. 😍 The final quilting on paper pieced projects does NOT have to be custom. No sir-ee! A simple E2E lets the quilt do all the talking!

So, we had a fire. Last year on May 6, our cabin succumbed to a forest fire, which devastated so many communities in Northern Alberta. It's been a long year, but we are over the gut punch, sucking on lemons stage and very much looking forward to the new cabin as it wraps up the last stages of completion. Scroll for progression of the property, including the "sewing room" (aka guest bedroom).

This cabin was our small sanctuary. Almost every weekend was spent there over the last 10 years. It was our wee place to recharge. And boy did we put a lot of work into it! Clearing trees, raising the cabin, adding septic, new deck, painted up pretty and many, many other labours of love. Surrounded by 50 year old spruce trees, where you could barely notice the neighbours. Then the fire left it flat AF. Flat. AF. (maybe I still have a bit of gut punch left....)

BUT! After a long summer and fall, so much happened to clear and prep the property. I gotta say - that I have THE MOST stellar hubz!!! The MAN power he put in, from honest to goodness GRUNT WORK and machine operating was astounding. SO thankful for friends and neighbours who rallied together and shared resources when able. This community is strong!

So, here we are, the year mark coming up very soon. New shop is in place, and the cabin is close to being done. Replacing 50 year old trees is just not a thing though. Which is one of the saddest parts.

Why do I share this on my Arrow Quilting IG & Facebook page? In all of this, the spare room at the "new" cabin got bigger (to a normal sized room!) and I have space dedicated to sewing! If you come stay for the weekend, I will tuck the sewing machine away - unless you come to sew with me! And, I have a feeling that the new space will be showing up in my social media feed! Perhaps a fair bit. So, I thought to share the progression of the "sewing room". It's pretty exciting!

So, we had a fire. Last year on May 6, our cabin succumbed to a forest fire, which devastated so many communities in Northern Alberta. It's been a long year, but we are over the gut punch, sucking on lemons stage and very much looking forward to the new cabin as it wraps up the last stages of completion. Scroll for progression of the property, including the "sewing room" (aka guest bedroom).

This cabin was our small sanctuary. Almost every weekend was spent there over the last 10 years. It was our wee place to recharge. And boy did we put a lot of work into it! Clearing trees, raising the cabin, adding septic, new deck, painted up pretty and many, many other labours of love. Surrounded by 50 year old spruce trees, where you could barely notice the neighbours. Then the fire left it flat AF. Flat. AF. (maybe I still have a bit of gut punch left....)

BUT! After a long summer and fall, so much happened to clear and prep the property. I gotta say - that I have THE MOST stellar hubz!!! The MAN power he put in, from honest to goodness GRUNT WORK and machine operating was astounding. SO thankful for friends and neighbours who rallied together and shared resources when able. This community is strong!

So, here we are, the year mark coming up very soon. New shop is in place, and the cabin is close to being done. Replacing 50 year old trees is just not a thing though. Which is one of the saddest parts.

Why do I share this on my Arrow Quilting IG & Facebook page? In all of this, the spare room at the "new" cabin got bigger (to a normal sized room!) and I have space dedicated to sewing! If you come stay for the weekend, I will tuck the sewing machine away - unless you come to sew with me! And, I have a feeling that the new space will be showing up in my social media feed! Perhaps a fair bit. So, I thought to share the progression of the "sewing room". It's pretty exciting!

I can say with confidence that I am not likely to tackle a quilt of this kind of detail. But, boy oh boy do I love admiring them!

Giselle knocked this one out of the park. And, this is her SECOND time making this quilt. 👏🏻👏🏻 Can we agree that the quilting world is a better place with quilts like this?

These flowers needed a little detour around them so as not to have stitches going across the appliqués. Worth the effort? Absolutely!

I'm smitten with the results! Adding a little custom touch makes all the difference, don't you think? The overall edge-to-edge pattern got a little bit of an edit, with my ProStitcher - oh the perks of computerized quilting!
